New Automotive Intelligent Power Device

Renesas Electronics Corporation, has announced the release of a new automotive Intelligent Power Device (IPD) that aims to safely and flexibly control power distribution within vehicles. This new IPD, named RAJ2810024H12HPD, is designed to address the requirements of next-generation E/E (electrical/electronic) architectures in the automotive industry.

One of the key features of this new device is its small footprint. The RAJ2810024H12HPD is available in the small TO-252-7 package, which reduces the mounting area by about 40% compared to the conventional TO-263 package product. This feature allows engineers to design more efficient and flexible power supply networks using shorter, thinner wires.

Another important aspect of the new IPD is its advanced current detection function, which allows for highly accurate detection of abnormal currents such as overcurrent. This function is effective even at low loads, which allows for the design of highly safe and precise power control systems that can detect even the smallest abnormalities.

The RAJ2810024H12HPD also has several other features, such as a built-in charge pump, self-diagnostic feedback by load current sense, and protection functions such as load short-circuit, overheat detection, sense current output, and GND open protection. It also supports 3.3V/5V logic interface, has low standby current, and is compliant with AEC-Q100 and RoHS automotive standards.

Renesas also offers the "Power Distribution Box with E-fuse" solution, which uses existing IPDs to replace the conventional fuses in the power supply box, and allows for the optimization of the wiring harness and an improvement in reliability through current monitoring. This solution is part of Renesas’ "Winning Combinations" which optimally combine mutually compatible Renesas devices that work together seamlessly to reduce user design risk and shorten time to market.

The RAJ2810024H12HPD is available for sample quantities, with mass production scheduled for Q1/2024. More information on the product can be found on Renesas' website.
