ROHM Semiconductor Solutions for Electric Mobility

What if the rear-view mirror in an electric three-wheeler was actually a screen showing live video from cameras around the vehicle? That was one of the interesting features we spotted at ROHM Semiconductor's booth at electronica India 2026. The smart EV demo included a motor controller rated at approximately 5-8 kW, a battery management system (BMS), and a dedicated board for controlling lighting and other vehicle peripherals. By integrating its components across these systems, ROHM demonstrated how semiconductor technology can support various functions in electric vehicles, from power control to auxiliary electronics.

EV Battery Management Board Using ROHM Components

One of the interesting features of the vehicle was its camera-based vision system, which used four cameras positioned around the vehicle: two near the side mirrors, one at the front, and one at the rear. The camera feeds were connected to a central smart cluster subsystem, which processed the video and displayed the footage on a digital rear-view display. This setup provides the driver with camera views of the vehicle's surroundings without relying solely on conventional mirrors.

Embedded Vision Processing Cluster for EVs

The demonstration highlights how modern EVs combine power electronics, battery monitoring, peripheral control, and embedded vision systems within a single platform. While the motor controller manages the electric drive and the BMS monitors the battery, the smart cluster subsystem handles the camera feeds and display. Together, these systems showcase the role of semiconductor components in enabling both essential vehicle functions and digital driver interfaces.

ROHM also showcased semiconductor solutions for automotive electronics and data centres, alongside technologies for EV charging, solar inverters, and industrial power conversion.
