AI Powered Robotic Hand

At electronica India 2026, STMicroelectronics showcased a range of robotics and embedded AI solutions, with one of the highlights being a 6-DOF robotic hand controlled by AI-based gesture recognition. Developed by a robotics customer using ST microcontrollers, the demo used a camera to capture hand movements and an AI system running on the STM32N6 to recognize gestures. When a person opened their hand or moved their fingers in front of the camera, the robotic hand mimicked the movements in real time, demonstrating how embedded AI can enable more natural human-robot interaction.

The demonstration was part of ST's broader STRIDE (ST Technology for Robotics, Intelligence, Dexterity and Execution) initiative, which focuses on enabling robotics through embedded processing, sensing, motor control, and AI technologies. By combining STM32 microcontrollers with sensing and control solutions, ST aims to support robotic applications that require precise movement, real-time processing, and interaction with their surroundings.

Beyond robotics, ST also demonstrated a battery-less vision edge AI system based on the STM32U3 for people detection, alongside its Aliro smart lock solution for interoperable digital access. Other demos included contactless authentication using STSAFE security technology and NFC, a sensor hub evaluation kit for gesture recognition, and a zonal control unit for automotive applications.

These demonstrations highlighted STMicroelectronics work across robotics, edge AI, smart access, automotive electronics, and power management, showing how its microcontrollers, sensors, and semiconductor technologies can be integrated into practical applications.
