Zero crossing with only resistor but without traditional components

Hi,
Would you suggest  what should i cosider in the aspect of design before to connect live wire of 230v/50hz directly to a MCU Pin through a resistor/s only  for the purpose of detection of zero crossing point in which traditional ckt(combination of diode, resistor, opto) can be truncated with minimul component in design.
To achieve the above scenario what step should I follow in step-wise for getting a good x-ing point as well??

I have google that it is possible in direct with mcu also seen some microchip AN.
Thnk all.

Yes it is possible to detect zero crossing with just a single resistor and a microcontroller.

This topic has already been discussed here
