Selecting right battery Guide for Litewing

Introduction

Selecting the right battery for LiteWing is key to getting stable flights and longer airtime. Because LiteWing is a small, WiFi-controlled drone powered by an ESP32-S3, its battery needs to strike the perfect balance between power, weight, and discharge rate. The drone comes with an out-of-the-box 1S 3.7V 30C battery, but if you're looking to upgrade, we'll guide you through key factors to consider when choosing a battery and provide some recommended options.

Notes

Battery Type

3.7V 1S LiPo

Single-cell Lithium Polymer

Nominal Voltage

3.7V

Required for power management circuit

Charging Voltage

4.2V

Standard LiPo charging voltage

LiteWing operates on a single-cell LiPo (Lithium Polymer) battery with a nominal voltage of 3.7V. The battery charging and power management circuit is designed for this particular setup, so make sure to select the 1S LiPo battery with the specifications recommended below.

Capacity Recommendations

Capacity Range

Weight Impact

Best For

300mAh - 800mAh

Shorter

Lighter weight

Better maneuverability

800mAh - 1300mAh

Longer

Extended flight duration

1S 3.7V 25C Lipo Battery with 1000mAh capacity

Battery capacity determines how long the drone can stay in the air before needing a recharge.

Discharge Rate (C-Rating)

25C discharge rating minimum value

The discharge rate (C-rating) defines how quickly the battery can supply current. LiteWing's motors require a minimum of 20C to ensure stable power delivery. Using a lower C-rated battery can cause voltage drops during flight, leading to unstable performance.

MX2.0 mm Battery Connector Type

LiteWing uses a Molex 51005 / 51006 series connection and also calls it MX2.0 mm. Ensure that the battery you choose comes with the correct connector, or use an adapter if necessary.

Important Note on Polarity: There is no standardisation on MX2.0 connector polarity. Depending on the manufacturer, the polarity may be different. Before plugging in the battery, make sure the battery polarity matches the polarity marking on the PCB.

Polarity check on MX2.0 mm Battery connector

If the polarity is wrong, you can either remove the crimp terminal from the connector shell carefully using a tweezer or pin and reinsert it in the correct orientation, or use a battery with a connector having the correct orientation. If you choose to correct the wiring, be extra careful because short-circuiting LiPo batteries can be dangerous.
