Si479xx Automotive Tuner Family with Software-Defined Radio Technology

Silicon Labs released new hybrid software-defined radio (SDR) tuners supporting the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) standard. The new Si479x7 devices expand the portfolio of Silicon Labs to meet the growing need of automotive radio manufacturers to support all global digital radio standards with a common platform. The Si479x7 tuners provides the outstanding field performance, pin and package compatibility between single and dual tuners, and bill of materials (BOM) cost advantages.

The Si479x7 tuners are based on hybrid SDR technology which integrates advanced DSP-based automotive features such as Digital Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Digital Radio Fast Detect, Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) and Dynamic Zero-IF (ZIF) I/Q. This gives the automotive radio manufacturers to support global digital radio standards with a common radio hardware and software design. Also, this added flexibility helps OEM and Tier 1 customers reduce design, qualification, sourcing and inventory costs while avoiding the complexity and inefficiency of supporting multiple automotive radio platforms.

The Si479x7 tuners include highly integrated single and dual device options with best-in-class AM/FM receiver performance, along with that it supports all broadcast radio bands including FM, AM, Short Wave, Long Wave, HD Radio, Weather Band, DAB (Band III) and DRM. The new tuners are built on Silicon Labs' RF CMOS technology, delivering outstanding automotive receiver performance. The tuners also feature proven mixed-signal, low-IF RF CMOS design providing excellent sensitivity in weak signal environments and better selectivity and intermodulation immunity in strong signal environments.

Si479x7 tuners features:

  • Compact Size Design occupies less board area
  • Supports all broadcast radio bands
  • Outstanding field performance
  • On-chip RDS/RDBS
  • 3.3 V analog power supply and 1.8 V digital power supply
  • Pb-free/RoHS compliant
  • AEC-Q100 qualified (A-grade devices)

Samples and production quantities of the new Si479x7 DRM hybrid SDR tuners are available now from Silicon Labs. Single DRM hybrid SDR tuners are available in a 48-pin, 7 mm x 7 mm QFN package fitting a board area of less than 55 mm2. Dual DRM tuners are offered in a 56-pin, 8 mm x 8 mm QFN package on a board area of less than 79 mm2.

Silicon Labs also provides the evaluation kits for designs based on Global Eagle and Dual Eagle tuners for rapid development. To get the pricing and ordering information of DRM hybrid SDR tuner product and evaluation kit, you can contact the local Silicon Labs sales representative.
