Last month Raspberry Pi launched its new development board Raspberry Pi Pico featuring the all-new RP2350 chip. Even though the Pico 2 came with a ton of upgrades and new features, it lacked one major feature, ie wireless connectivity. Just like the Pico, Pico 2 also lacked any kind of wireless connectivity options such as Bluetooth or WiFi. As we know Pico got the wireless connectivity with the release of Pico W. But as of now, there are no words on an official Pico 2W, that everyone is eager to get. Don’t worry if you are one of those people who are waiting for the official Pico 2W, there is an unofficial Pico 2W with more improvements.

Pimoroni, a maker from the UK, is known for his development boards and modules and has just launched a Pico 2W alternative called the Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W. As the name suggests, the Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W is designed to be an upgraded version of the yet to exist Raspberry Pi Pico 2W. The Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W features the same RP2350 chipset found on the official Pico 2 along with an RMC2 in-house developed wireless module from Raspberry Pi featuring single-band WiFi and Bluetooth, which is most certainly designed and developed for the most awaited official Raspberry Pi Pico 2W.
Apart from the added wireless connectivity, the Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W comes with a few more upgrades in its sleeves. The Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W comes with 16MB flash storage along with an 8MB PSRAM and a USB Type C port for power and communication as well as a Qwiic/STEMMA QT connector for attaching a breakout board. With all these features, the Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W costs a little more than the actual Pico 2, which costs only 5$. The Pimoroni Pico Plus 2 W is available to purchase from Pimoroni’s website for 16.8$. Even though it is out of stock at the time of writing this, it is expected to be in stock very soon.
