Bharat Electronics And Tata Collaborate On Semiconductors

Bharat Electronics Ltd(BEL), a Navratna defense public sector enterprise that deals with cutting-edge electronics systems, and Tata Electronics, a Tata Group greenfield venture, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 5, 2025, at Bombay House, Mumbai. This formalizes their joint efforts to develop indigenous electronics and semiconductor solutions.

The primary aim of the collaboration is the end-to-end development of semiconductor fabrication (Fab), outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT), and design services. The focus is set on various components, including microcontrollers (MCUs), systems-on-chip (SoCs), monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), and other processors that address BEL’s present and future requirements. Under the MoU, both entities look to leverage shared technical expertise. Tapping into the combined best practices and resources should help optimize manufacturing and reduce import dependency in the electronics and semiconductor space.

BEL has a long-standing portfolio in defense and civilian electronics, including radar and communication systems. Tata Electronics has already set itself as a strategic player in the semiconductor value chain of India. This concerted effort seeks to strengthen India’s semiconductor landscape and serve as a contribution towards technological self-sufficiency.
