With 18 years of experience, Bangalore and Chennai-based Sahara Group of Industries has been involved in numerous sectors, including healthcare, aviation, and automobile. Now the company has stepped into thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD display production, which was put on display at electronica India 2025. This is a line of tech known for powering everything from smartphones to industrial equipment.
"We have already successfully set up the initial stage required for this production," said Sharmila, representing Sahara Group of Industries. She highlighted their “automated backlight module assembly line”, “module assembly”, and “optical binding capabilities”. This underscores the company’s vertical integration and local manufacturing initiatives. The backlight module and TFT glass are in-house productions, whereas the TFT panel is sourced externally, given the technical complexity involved in its manufacturing.
What makes this achievement particularly noteworthy is Sahara's claim to be India's first company to accomplish this level of TFT display integration domestically. Sharmila emphasized, “I am proud to tell you that in India, we are the first ones to do this, and I hope that we will get many supporters and suppliers." At the time of writing this piece, India imports the majority of its display components, with the domestic display production sector still in its nascent stage. Sahara's entry into TFT display production counts as a step towards reducing this dependency and aligning with the government's "Make in India" initiative.
