disabling a timer chip
July 29, 2020 - 2:25pm

We use coffee filter machines to make our tea, and then have a cup throughout the day whenever we want to. Three years ago the EU introduced a law that all coffee filter machines in Europe should AUTOMATICALLY switch off after twenty minutes! So when we buy a new one I have to remove the small circuit board and re-wire the thing to get my filter machines to stay on until I have finished tea for the day.

Is there a simple way I can disable a timing chip by cutting a wire to save all the re-wiring?

The problem with a timer chip is that it controls using firmware or digital hardware. However, as of now there is no solution for this one unless the manufacturer of the cofee machine provides bypass option or a turn off timer or standby feature.

Btw, how you rewire the thing? How you cut off the circuit?

These machines have previously been simply wired via a small on/off mains switch, direct through the thermostat attached to the heated element and then through the element back to th negative terminal. The manufacturers just routed the power through a small timing pcb but that also required an electronically controlled on/off switch which, after removal of the smal board, has to be replaced by a normal on/off switch.

Seems like this is the only way.
