US-based embedUR Systems has teamed up with Synaptics Inc., a Nasdaq-listed semiconductor company, to offer affordable AI-powered edge solutions in India. This partnership aims to meet the growing demand for smart technologies in areas like smart homes, medical monitoring, manufacturing and driver assistance systems. With embedUR’s Chennai-based team and global semiconductor expertise of Synaptics, they plan to create cost-effective solutions designed for the Indian market.
The partnership combines advanced Neural Processing Units (NPUs) of Synaptics with embedUR’s ModelNova AI platform, which includes ready-made models for real-world application. These technologies will help develop solutions like facial recognition for secure access, image analysis for vision applications and pose estimation to improve user-device interactions. The goal is to make it easier for small and medium businesses to adopt AI without spending too much money.
Synaptics CEO, Michael Hurlston, shared that their chips are priced between ₹400-800, making AI technology affordable for smaller businesses in India. He also mentioned that Synaptics is looking to work with Indian companies to assemble chips locally, as most chips are currently made in Taiwan. This will help reduce India’s reliance on foreign suppliers and strengthen the domestic industry. This partnership supports India’s drive for technological inclusion, focusing on industries like IoT, medical devices and manufacturing. By providing affordable and innovative solutions, embedUR Systems and Synaptics are working towards creating smarter, more connected devices, which will contribute to India’s economic growth and long-term sustainability.
