An open-source hardware developer has unveiled WaveClock, a creative project that transforms a broken analog clock into a modern digital display using an ESP32-S3-based 1.46-inch Round Display Development Board. This modification preserves the classic aesthetics of an analog clock while integrating smart digital features.

At the heart of WaveClock is the Waveshare 1.46-inch round LCD, featuring a 412x412 resolution and touch functionality. This allows for interactive controls beyond just displaying time. The ESP32-S3 microcontroller powers the clock, handling graphics rendering, wireless connectivity, and potential smart features such as NTP synchronization for accurate timekeeping.

The developer designed the user interface using Squareline Studio, a popular tool for creating graphical UI layouts.

This project showcases how outdated electronics can be repurposed using modern technology, blending vintage design with smart digital enhancements. For makers and enthusiasts interested in recreating WaveClock, the project files and source code are available on GitHub: WaveClock.
