Vishay Intertechnology’s new VLMRGB6122 is a high-performance RGB LED designed for automotive lighting, full-color displays, and backlighting applications. It measures just 3.5 mm x 2.8 mm x 1.4 mm and comes in a PLCC-6 surface-mount package. Separate anode and cathode connections for the red, green, and blue chips allow colors to be controlled independently. Precise mixing across the full gamut triangle of the CIE 1931 is possible.
This LED delivers luminous intensity up to 2800 mcd (millicandela) at 20 mA. A 70% higher brightness is achieved through the use of AllnGaP and InGaN technologies. Also, in comparison to other competing solutions, it features a 22% lower profile, making it an ideal choice for designs where saving space is critical. It’s suited for applications in ambient and dashboard lighting in vehicles, RGB message boards, consumer electronics backlighting, and status indicators in industrial and medical devices.
The VLMRGB6122 does well in harsh environments with a wide operating temperature range from -40 °C to +110 °C, Class B1 corrosion resistance, and ESD protection rated up to 8 kV. It’s AEC-Q102 qualified, RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green. It supports IR reflow soldering. The LEDs are shipped in reels with matched brightness, color, and voltage, making them consistent for mass production. Both samples and production quantities are available now, and delivery can take 17 weeks from the time of order placement.
