A company called Clone Robotics has launched a video of their Torso 2, what we believe is designed for their upcoming robot called Alpha. The video shows the second version of the Torso with an actuated lumbar spine and a full set of abdominal muscles that makes this android to move like never before. It’s wrapped in a slick, transparent skin that houses 910 muscle fibers, driving 164 degrees of freedom with the help of 182 sensors for precise control.
From the video the robot seems to run on pneumatic actuation, and the video mentions that the Robot is using off-the-shelf valves, which can be a bit noisy due to air exhaust and in later version it will be upgraded to a quieter hydraulic system. Right now, the robot’s movements are driven by hand-coded sequences to show off the hardware’s capabilities. And while its visor is temporarily opaque, a sleek one-way mirror is on the way.
Legs are coming soon, and Clone Robotics isn’t holding back, teasing constant updates on their YouTube channel and social media handles.
