LTM4661 Tiny uModule Low Voltage Regulator

Analog Devices launched LTM4661 a low power step-up µModule regulator in an ultrathin size 6.25mm x 6.25mm x 2.42mm BGA package.

LTM4661 requires only a few number of capacitor and resistor to complete the design. It takes only 1cm2 of area space single-sided or 0.5cm2 on double-sided PCBs. The Design includes a switching DC/DC controller, MOSFETs, inductors and supporting components. It requires 1.8v to 5.5v of input supply for operating, and continues to operate down to 0.7v after start-up. It gives an adjustable output voltage range from 2.5v to 15v using a single resistor.

LTM4661 is a perfect combination of the small, thin package with wide input and output voltage range which is ideal for various applications including optical modules, battery-powered equipment, bias voltage for power amps or laser diodes and small DC motors.

Protection features of LTM4661increase its demand, the output disconnect during shutdown and inrush current limit at start-up. Also have, fault protection feature include over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit protection.

LTM4661 can deliver 4A of current under 3.3V input to 5V output and 0.7A continuously under 3.3Vin to 12Vout, it employs synchronous rectification which delivers 92% conversion efficiency (under 3.3Vin to 5Vout). LTM4661 has a switching frequency of 1MHz and dual phase single output architecture enable fast transient response to line and load changes and a significant reduction of output ripple voltage.

LTM4661 has three operation modes named as Burst mode, Forced Continuous mode and External sync mode. In Burst mode the quiescent current is only 25µA which helps in providing extended battery run time. Forced continuous mode is used for application requires lowest possible noise operation. External Sync mode helps inn minimizing possible interface of switching noise.

Some features of LTM4661 are mentioned below:

  • Operating temperature: –40℃ to 125℃
  • Up to 4A of DC output current
  • Output voltage range: 2.5v to 15v
  • ±3% of maximum total DC Bout regulation Over Load, Line and Temperature.
  • Auto disconnect output on shutdown
  • Inrush current limit
  • Overvoltage and Over temperature protection
