ROHM NIR LEDs for Sensing Applications

ROHM announced the launch of a new series of compact surface-mount near-infrared (NIR) LEDs, designed to meet the surging demand for precise, power-efficient sensing in contemporary applications such as VR, AR, automation systems, and biosensors. The introduced lineup includes six models across three package configurations.

The LEDs are available in 850nm and 940nm wavelengths, tailored to various sensing needs. The 850nm models deliver optimal sensitivity for camera-based detection and phototransistor use, while the 940nm versions are more suited for biosensing and motion detection tasks. ROHM has reached top-tier radiant intensity in a compact form. The SML-P14RW delivers approximately 1.4x higher radiant intensity than conventional 1006 size NIR LEDs at the same current and requires 30% less power to deliver equivalent output. This allows superior detection accuracy and saves system energy on the whole. The LEDs are built to operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C.

With this launch, ROHM reinforces its commitment to enabling next-generation sensing technologies using advanced optoelectronic components. The NIR LEDs are currently available for purchase through major distributors including DigiKey, Mouser, and Farnell. Sample pricing starts at $1.00 per unit (excluding tax).  The product lineup includes models such as SML-P14RW, SML-P14R3W, CSL0902RT, CSL0902R3T, CSL1002RT, and CSL1002R3T, meeting various application needs.
