I have hit a wall and could do with a little pointer in the right direction. I am installing some LEDs to my little girls desk area and to make it fun for her I want to add a big red button to turn the lights on. I have the button which is supplied with a micro switch and so I cant quite work out the best way to go from the micro switch to a latching. I am adding the button to the 12v dc output side of the LED driver. Cheers in advance.
Use D-type flip-flop with feedback. The load (your Leds) switch with some power Mosfet.
Power the CD4013 with 12V power supply, you can use the push button voltage with 12V also. In this case you will not require additional 5V regulator. The CD4013 supports maximum voltage of 15V

PermalinkHi, I would use a D type flip/flop (4013 IC) in toggle mode, output connect to some IRFxxx Mosfet, todays they has low Rds_on (mOhms) so they doesn`t steal too much energy. Or use relay instead.
