Suchi Semicon Semiconductor Manufacturing Plant Inauguration

Suchi Semicon, a Gujarat-based company, has officially inaugurated its semiconductor manufacturing plant, marking a significant milestone for India’s semiconductor industry. The company, founded by Ashok Mehta, has decided to commence production without waiting for central government incentives. It has announced an ambitious investment plan of $100 million (around ₹840 crore) over the next three years to strengthen its position in this sector. The Gujarat state government has already approved a 20% incentive for Suchi Semicon’s facility, boosting the company’s confidence in moving forward. While awaiting incentives under the India Semiconductor Mission, Suchi Semicon is actively working to meet the eligibility criteria and remains optimistic about securing approval soon.

Ashok Mehta, the chairman, revealed that the company’s entry into the semiconductor space was inspired by the global semiconductor shortages experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. These shortages highlighted the urgent need for domestic manufacturing capabilities in India. Mehta highlighted that Suchi Semicon’s strategy is focused on long-term sustainability and growth, ensuring operations are not entirely dependent on government subsidies. The company has already initiated trial production, with testing currently underway for applications across various sectors. The first batch of commercial shipments is expected to roll out by the first quarter of next year, serving to both global and domestic markets.

As part of its future plans, Suchi Semicon aims to expand its operations into power semiconductor production in its second phase, which is expected to start in the next financial year. To support this expansion, the company is in active discussions with technology partners to strengthen its capabilities and align with industry standards. With a team of 60 skilled employees, including domain experts, Suchi Semicon is ready to boost production and contribute to India’s vision of becoming a global semiconductor hub. Its efforts highlight the growing importance of domestic innovation and manufacturing in building a resilient semiconductor ecosystem.
