An electronics hobbyist has made, Gus 2.0 a desktop companion that monitors air quality, temperature, and humidity. It features expressive eyes that visually indicate room comfort by adjusting eyelid positions based on sensor data.
Powered by the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-C3, this companion integrates a Grove Air Quality Sensor, DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor, and a 1.12-inch OLED display to provide real-time environmental updates. A capacitive touch sensor on top allows users to check readings with a simple tap.
The enclosure is 3D-printed and designed in Fusion 360, ensuring a compact and structured fit for all components. The improved eyelid mechanism now has four levels of drooping, offering clearer visual feedback on room conditions.
The firmware processes sensor readings and calculates a comfort score from 0 to 4, dynamically adjusting the eyelid position. The project is fully open-source, with design files and code available. You can check it out for tinkering or modifying to suit your own setup.
