Ather Energy, a leading Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer has joined forces with ChargeMOD, a prominent charge point operator to enhance the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Kerala. The partnership will add 121 new charging stations across the state, expanding Ather’s network of 291 fast chargers as of December 31, 2024. This collaboration is designed to simplify EV ownership by providing accessible, reliable fast-charging facilities for users of the standardized LECCS connector. This initiative bolsters EV adoption in the region.
The new charging stations will utilize the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) which is recognized as India’s standard since August 2023 and identified as the Type 7 connector. This standardized system ensures compatibility across various electric vehicles. ChargeMOD, managing over 3,500 stations in India, Nepal and Abu Dhabi, brings extensive operational expertise. By integrating LECCS technology, the collaboration promotes interoperability and reliable charging services, thereby strengthening the overall EV ecosystem in Kerala.
Ather Energy has been a pioneer in developing EV infrastructure with its Ather Grid network, launched in 2018 as India’s first fast-charging network for two-wheelers. In addition to expanding in Kerala, the company added 799 fast chargers between April and December FY2024 nationwide. Previous partnerships with Bharat Petroleum, Sangeetha Mobiles and Café Coffee Day have further reinforced its commitment to sustainable mobility and infrastructure growth across India. This strategic approach consistently fosters long-term industry advancement.
Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy stated that collaborating with charge point operators is key to accelerating EV infrastructure development. He emphasized that such partnerships simplify the charging experience and support India’s move toward sustainable transportation. Visakh Raj, founder of ChargeMOD stated that the partnership aims to create a strong and reliable charging network. Both leaders are confident that this collaboration will drive further growth in Kerala’s EV market.
