First Jet Hoverbike Opens for Preorders Soon

A futuristic personal flying vehicle we previously covered will soon be available for pre-ordering. The Volonaut Airbike, developed by Polish inventor Tomasz Patan, is a jet-powered hoverbike. It is designed for a single rider and is capable of going as fast as 200 km/h. However, this is limited to 102 km/h for compliance reasons.

A standout feature of the Airbike is its jet propulsion system. It makes use of jet turbines as opposed to spinning propellers, which allows a ride that’s smooth and without vibrations. It has a built-in flight computer and stabilization system that allows for automatic hovering and intuitive control, even without a pilot’s license. In the U.S., it qualifies under FAA Ultralight regulations, which means you don’t need certification to fly it.

The Airbike is remarkably small and lightweight. It weighs just 30 kg, which is about seven times less than a regular motorcycle. This is accomplished using carbon fiber materials and 3D-printed parts. It has an open-seat design that gives riders an unobstructed 360-degree view. The vehicle can fly for up to 10 minutes on a single tank, using diesel, biodiesel, Jet-A1, or kerosene. Refueling takes less than a minute. Preorders open on the 1st of August at their official website.
