DIY One-Wheel Electric Board From Hoverboard

A combination of an old hoverboard, a go-kart tire, and some clever engineering apparently gets you a functional one-wheel electric ride that rides like a snowboard both on and off the road. A DIY creator from the YouTube channel Well Done Tips took what he believes to be one of the most useless electric rides ever made and transformed it into a surprisingly cool custom one-wheel electric board, built almost entirely from salvaged parts and aluminum tubing.

The project started with tearing down the hoverboard, rescuing its motors, and designing a compact frame using 20x40mm aluminum tubes. The motors were housed in an airless go-kart tire and mounted using repurposed hoverboard parts. The chassis was reinforced with a 2mm aluminum bottom panel, drilled and folded for strength and a clean fit. Using just one sensor, the creator routed the signal wires to make both motors spin in sync. Phase wires and hall sensor connections were adjusted to ensure proper motor rotation.

A good chunk of the project involved custom 3D-printed parts, designed in Fusion 360 and printed on a Bambu Lab A1 printer. The freedom to create custom parts allowed the builder to streamline the assembly process.  The battery pack was modified by relocating cells and extending wires to make it slimmer and easier to integrate.

The yield was a sleek, minimalist electric ride with a wooden footpad.  It goes to show how smart design, basic tools, and a 3D printer can turn your regret on wheels into something fun and functional. With hoverboards piling up in his workshop, the creator teases more projects to come.
