u-blox, a global leader in positioning and wireless communication technologies has signed an agreement to transfer its cellular IoT module business to Trasna, a semiconductor and IoT solutions provider. In this transaction, u-blox will transfer its cellular module technology. This transfer includes intellectual property, workforce, sites and product portfolio. The deal is anticipated to close in the second quarter of 2025.

Trasna will retain all employees, customers and ongoing operations as part of the acquisition. The move strengthens Trasna’s offering with an end to end cellular IoT solution covering semiconductor chip design, SIM and eSIM manufacturing and cloud based remote management services. This strategic transfer leverages u-blox’s established relationships with original equipment manufacturers and its global distribution network.

Both companies confirmed the agreement through formal statements. u-blox emphasized its intention to focus on core positioning technologies and highlighted the smooth transition for its cellular division. Trasna expressed commitment to building upon the existing cellular module portfolio while integrating the team into its operations. The announcements include remarks by CEOs Stephan Zizala and Stéphane Fund, reflecting mutual confidence in the deal.

Additionally, u‑blox announced a non‑cash restructuring charge of CHF 39 million. However, the overall costs related to the transaction have been reduced to about CHF 4 million. The company expects its Q1 2025 revenue to be between CHF 65 and 75 million with an adjusted cash EBIT margin ranging from -12% to -2%. u‑blox also anticipates a gradual market recovery and continued growth in its Locate and Short-Range segments. This deal represents an important change in the operational strategies of both companies.
