PI3USB9201 - USB Battery Charging Detector

Diodes incorporated had announced the release of dual role PI3USB9201 USB BC 1.2 detector that has both host and client circuitry, it helps the designers to optimize the BoM size and cost of adding USB Type-C interface circuitry in the electronic devices. The available market solutions require devices to dedicate themselves to either host or client mode, but the PI3USB9201 enables developers to fully support the reversible and bidirectional flexibility of the USB Type-C interface with a single chip.

If the PI3USB9201 is configured as a host, it will broadcast the device as a standard downstream port (SDP), charging downstream port (CDP), or dedicated charging port (DCP) via the USB D+/D- pins in accordance with BC 1.2. If it is configured as a client the PI3USB9201 monitors the D+/D- pins to detect the attached host type.

Features of PI2USB9201:

  • Wide operating voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V
  • Operates within a temperature range of -40°C  to +85°C
  • 1 MHz I2C interface and a 4 pin selectable slave addresses
  • Includes a differential pass through Switch
  • Packed in a 2mm x 2mm 12-pin QFN package

The different Pass-through USB switches in PI3USB9201 supports USB switch through in host mode to permit system wakeup via mouse or keyboard and a wide operating voltage range ensures the dependable operation in battery-powered equipment and energy-saving sub-1µA current in shutdown mode.
