New Hall Effect Switch ICs for Precise Contactless Detection in Automotive Systems

Diodes Incorporated has expanded its automotive-compliant product lineup with the introduction of two new high-voltage Hall effect switch IC series: the AH332xQ (unipolar) and AH352xQ (omnipolar). These switches are designed for contactless position and proximity detection applications, making them ideal for automotive uses such as seat belt fastening, door and trunk latches, windshield wipers, and steering-wheel locks. Both IC families come in SIP-3, SOT23 (Type S), and SC59 packages, offering flexibility for various design requirements.

The unipolar AH332xQ activates when it detects a magnetic flux density exceeding a defined threshold (BOP) and deactivates when the flux falls below the release point (BRP). It offers ten sensitivity options, ranging from a highly sensitive 30G BOP to a lower sensitivity 275G BOP, allowing designers to choose the right magnet and distance configuration for optimal sensing performance.

The omnipolar AH352xQ detects magnetic flux from either the north or south pole, with activation and deactivation thresholds similarly set by BOP and BRP. It comes in three high-sensitivity options, ranging from ±20G to ±40G, ensuring accurate detection from both magnetic poles.

Both IC families feature an open-drain output, operate over a 3.0V to 28V supply range, and are rated for temperatures from -40°C to +150°C. Designed for harsh automotive environments, the devices include built-in reverse blocking diodes, Zener clamps on supply pins, overcurrent limits, and strong ESD protection (8kV HBM and 1kV CDM). They are also capable of withstanding a 40V load dump, enhancing their reliability and robustness.

Available in quantities of 3,000, the AH332xQ and AH352xQ are priced at USD 0.30 each, making them cost-effective solutions for automotive applications.
