PitFusion - A Thermal Imaging Solution

Ivmech Mechatronics Ltd has introduced PitFusion, an innovative dual-camera module designed for Raspberry Pi and compatible single-board computers. Combining a Melexis MLX90640 thermal sensor with a 5-megapixel Raspberry Pi camera, PitFusion captures both thermal and visual images simultaneously. This compact solution is engineered for applications in automation, robotics, security and environmental monitoring, catering to both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

The PitFusion module integrates a 32 × 24 pixel thermal sensor with a high-resolution camera capable of capturing images at 2592 × 1944 pixels. With thermal imaging frame rates of up to 32 Hz and visual capture at 30 fps, the device provides real-time performance necessary for precision applications. Its ability to operate over a wide temperature range from -40° C to 300° C ensures robust functionality in various environments.

Connectivity is streamlined through an I2C interface for the thermal sensor and a CSI connection for the camera module, ensuring seamless integration with Raspberry Pi systems. The module’s design measuring 40 x 30 x 10 mm and weighing just 15 g offers a plug-and-play experience without compromising on performance. This thoughtful engineering emphasizes Ivmech Mechatronics Ltd’s commitment to delivering reliable and efficient imaging solutions.

PitFusion is available as open hardware under the GPL-3.0 license with source files already accessible on GitHub and schematics to be released post-campaign. This initiative reinforces the company’s dedication to community-driven development and innovation in modern imaging technology, setting a new standard for dual-camera applications.
