Robotic MULE Dogs in Indian Army Day Parade 2025

The Indian Army marked its 77th Army Day on January 15, 2025 with a grand parade held in Pune. This was the first time the event was conducted outside Delhi, making it a historic occasion. The Southern Command Investiture Ceremony took place at the BEG & Centre Parade Ground in Khadki. The event showcased the Army’s advancements in technology including AI-powered robotic MULE (Multi-Utility Legged Equipment) dogs. These robots developed by AeroArc (a subsidiary of Arc Ventures) are a major step in the Army’s efforts to modernize its operations and reduce risks for soldiers.

The robotic MULEs are designed to perform important tasks in tough environments such as perimeter security, bomb disposal and intelligence gathering. These robots are also set to replace traditional pack mules in mountainous and remote areas, thus helping to transport supplies more efficiently. The Army received 100 units of these robots, which were ordered in 2023 under an emergency procurement plan. Each robot can carry up to 12 kilograms of load, climb steep slopes and work in extreme weather conditions ranging from -40°C to 55°C. Their advanced features include a 20-hour battery life, powerful NVIDIA Xavier processors and protection against dust and water with an IP67 rating.

The parade also included contingents from various regimental centers displaying the Army’s strength and tradition. Advanced weapons, modern combat vehicles and other equipment were part of the showcase. Army Day is celebrated every year to honor the sacrifices of soldiers and remember the contributions of Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa, who became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949. This year’s event, with the addition of robotic dogs, reflected the Army’s focus on innovation and safety. These AI-powered machines demonstrate the Army's adoption of new technology to enhance efficiency and safety for its personnel.
