High Power IR Emitters with SurfLight Surface Emitter Chip Technology

Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of six new 850 nm and 940 nm high power infrared (IR) emitters that are built on Vishay’s SurfLight surface emitter chip technology and deliver best in class radiant intensity in 3.4mm by 3.4mm surface-mount packages. These new devices are designed for high drive currents up to 1.5 A DC and 5 A pulsed in industrial and consumer applications.

Featuring a double-stack chip, these IR emitters provide high radiant intensity up to 6,000mW/sr at a 5A pulse current and are ideal for eye tracking in gaming, as well as night vision for CCTV, machine vision, toll systems, number plate recognition, and general IR illumination. These devices enable greater illumination distance while minimizing the number of components required to lower costs and save space.

Key Features

  • Package type: surface-mount
  • Package form: high power SMD with lens
  • Dimensions (L x W x H in mm): 3.4 x 3.4 x 2.45
  • Centroid wavelength: λcentroid = 940 nm
  • Angle of half intensity: ϕ = ± 40°
  • Designed for high drive currents: up to 1.5 A (DC) and up to 5 A (pulsed)
  • Low thermal resistance: 6 K/W < RthJSP < 9 K/W
  • ESD: up to 5 kV (according to ANSI / ESDA / JEDEC JS-001)
  • Floor life: 168 h, MSL 3, according to J-STD-020

Moreover, these devices combine their high radiant intensity with three angles of half intensity and an increased ambient temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C, and low thermal resistance from 6 K/W to 9 K/W.
