On the 23rd of January 2026, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, visited the headquarters of Dutch lithography systems provider ASML in Veldhoven. He said, “Our fab in Dholera will be using ASML equipment. So I have come here to visit and understand their technology.”
ASML supplies technology to the semiconductor industry that is used to manufacture the world’s most advanced chips. They enable lithography, the beyond-complex process of printing intricate circuit patterns onto silicon wafers. India already has a strong fabless semiconductor ecosystem, very active in chip design and verification and is turning a new leaf with this greenfield fabrication facility, adding domestic manufacturing capabilities.
“Equipment manufacturers from all over the world are setting up a base in India, because of the design capabilities, huge talent pool and the consistent policies of PM @narendramodi ji,” posted the Minister on X. “ASML enables practically every chip manufactured in the world. Its entire senior leadership team participated in SEMICON India 2025, where they expressed strong interest in becoming a partner in India’s semiconductor journey.”
