Andhra Pradesh has set up two new AI-focused facilities, one in Amaravati and one in Visakhapatnam, which began operating on July 28. The initiative comes with backing from the central government's electronics and IT ministry, working alongside the state's own IT and electronics department. Both sites will run under the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, the state's main startup and innovation network.
The two centres exist to hand early-stage DeepTech founders something they often can't afford on their own: access to serious GPU computing power. Beyond hardware access, startups will also be able to tap into hands-on mentoring, help turning research into sellable products, and introductions to potential customers and investors. The broader goal, as laid out at launch, is to get universities, companies and research bodies working more closely together, with Andhra Pradesh positioning itself as a state where AI startups can actually get built.
During the launch, conversations centered on a recurring problem in India's DeepTech space, that good research often stalls before it becomes an actual business, and what it would take to close that gap. Attendees also discussed how to build startup support that's genuinely useful to founders, how GPU access and investor connections can help companies scale faster, and why closer ties between industry and academic institutions matter for keeping momentum going at both centres long-term.
