SlimeVR has introduced its new wireless full-body tracking solution based on the success and experience of previous versions. It improves comfort, adds battery life, and is lighter. Each tracker in the system contains an IMU sensor that wirelessly sends data to your PC or smartphone. The SlimeVR Server software uses the data in relation to your body’s proportions and headset position to calculate movements.
Usually, VR body tracking needs base stations or cameras. These trackers are exceptions that can even be worn beneath your clothes or a blanket without the fear of occlusion. Being open-source and community-driven, the project encourages anyone to modify or improve the hardware and software. The trackers measure less than 7 mm and weigh less than 12 grams. The split design has the battery on one side and the circuit board on the other, keeping the trackers slim. Both sides are connected by a flexible band. They charge via USB Type-C and have a battery that lasts over 24 hours of continuous use. The trackers don’t need a router setup, as they work with a dongle that you plug into your PC.
The trackers can be worn through Velcro, custom clothing, adhesive backing, etc. Compatibility spans over popular games and platforms like VRChat, Resonite, Chillout VR, Blade & Sorcery, and SteamVR. Software features like Autobone, Stay Aligned, Joint Constraints, Anti-Feet Sliding, and Foot Plant make the tracking more accurate and stable by reducing drift and keeping the body movement realistic.
