New Semiconductor Manufacturing Units in Uttar Pradesh

The semiconductor projects by HCL’s Vamasundari and Tarq Semiconductor will bring a combined investment of over ₹32,000 crore to Jewar, aiming to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing industry.

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the establishment of two semiconductor manufacturing units by Vamasundari Investment (HCL Group) and Tarq Semiconductor (Hiranandani Group) near the Noida International Airport in Jewar. This decision was announced by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and marks a significant step towards enhancing India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. The state government has allocated land for these projects, which are expected to strengthen industrial growth and generate substantial economic benefits for the region.

Vamasundari Investment, a subsidiary of the HCL Group, plans to invest ₹3,706 crore to set up a semiconductor manufacturing unit that will produce small panel driver ICs and display integrated circuits. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 2,40,000 units and will cover 50 acres. The unit will require 2,000 MLD of water per day and 19,000 KVA of electricity. The investment is expected to create 3,780 job opportunities. The Uttar Pradesh government will provide a capital subsidy of ₹7,037 crore to support the project, in addition to central government incentives. This initiative will play a crucial role in enhancing India’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Tarq Semiconductor, associated with the Hiranandani Group, will invest ₹28,440 crore to establish a semiconductor manufacturing unit in Sector 28 near the airport. This project is waiting for final approval from the Government of India, with operations expected to begin within 18 months after receiving the necessary clearances. The proposed unit is expected to contribute to reducing India’s dependency on semiconductor imports and will help build a more self-reliant manufacturing ecosystem. Both projects highlight the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to supporting the semiconductor industry and the region’s economic development.
