Mahindra has launched a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) and battery assembly facility at its Chakan manufacturing hub near Pune. This advanced facility spread over 88000 m² and it is fully automated and includes modern technologies like AI systems, Industry 4.0 tools and over 1000 robots. The plant operates entirely on renewable energy and targets a 25% gender diversity ratio, reinforcing Mahindra’s commitment to creating an inclusive and eco-friendly workplace. The Chakan facility focuses on manufacturing Electric Origin SUVs. It features a robotic Press Shop, an AI-driven Body Shop and a robotic Paint Shop, ensuring high-quality and efficient manufacturing. With an IoT-based system for real-time monitoring, the plant enhances productivity and maintains quality standards.
Mahindra’s approach combines technology with sustainable practices to deliver reliable EVs suited for both Indian and global markets. The battery assembly plant at Chakan uses patented methods to manufacture compact and durable batteries. It includes advanced safety features like real-time temperature monitoring, IP67 ingress protection and multiple tests under simulated conditions to ensure safety and performance. The plant’s “no-fault-forward” policy ensures that only high-quality batteries are delivered, reinforcing Mahindra’s commitment to reliability and customer trust in their EV products.
Mahindra has allocated ₹4500 crore from its ₹16000 crore investment plan for FY22 - FY27 to grow its EV operations. This includes developing powertrains, manufacturing capabilities and launching new product lines. The Chakan facility marks a major step toward supporting India’s green energy goals and advancing the future of sustainable mobility. By combining innovation with domestic production, Mahindra strengthens its "Make in India for the World" mission.
