Infineon Technologies just launched new isolated gate driver ICs, hence expanding the RiceDRIVER family. These new drivers are built to work with both IGBT and SiC technologies, making them ideal for managing traction inverters, which play a critical role in powering electric vehicles.
The driver can handle output stages of 20 A and are able to operate with inverters in power classes up to 300 kW. These are ideal for traction inverters and high performing xEV platforms making it cost effective. Other variants are also available such as 1EDI3028AS and 1EDI3038AS variants which have an output stage of 15A, for entry-level EVs like battery electric cars and plug-in hybrids. The drivers are equipped with a soft-off feature, this will provide excellent protection from short circuit keeping it safe from electrical hazards. These gate drivers have integrated self-tests for desaturation protection (DESAT) and overcurrent protection (OCP).
They also have a 12-bit ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter), which allows precise measurements of voltage and temperature, aiding in accurate system monitoring. The gate drivers are AEC-qualified and ISO 26262-compliant making it safe for use. They are compact, so they fit well and simplify the vehicle design. These new gate driver ICs help improve electric vehicle performance by making power management easier and simplifying the design.
