Gujarat has emerged as India’s preferred destination for semiconductor companies, according to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Speaking at the inauguration of SemiConnect-2025 in Gandhinagar, Patel emphasized the state’s proactive initiatives including the Gujarat State Electronics Mission and a dedicated semiconductor policy launched in 2022. He described Gujarat as a land of opportunities and a gateway to the future, affirming its role in advancing ‘Make in India’ and ‘Local to Global’ value chains in electronics sector.
Four out of every five semiconductor manufacturing units under development in India are being established in Gujarat with Dholera emerging as the preferred site. Several companies have signed Memorandums of Understanding at the event to set up their units in this Greenfield Smart City. Dholera offers plug-and-play facilities and modern infrastructure to support large-scale investments, making it an attractive location for industry players seeking reliable growth and state support. The initiative boosts local economic development.
Sushil Pal, CEO of the Indian Semiconductor Mission and Joint Secretary, MEITY presented compelling statistics on India’s electronics export growth. He noted that India advanced from 11th to 5th largest economy between 2012 and 2024, while its electronics exports grew from 6.4 billion USD in 2017 to approximately 29 billion USD in 2023-24. In the current financial year, the sector has already become the third largest export contributor, reflecting strong performance.
Additional announcements at SemiConnect 2025 included a multilateral agreement and four two-party Memorandums of Understanding, one of which was between Tata Electronics and IIT Gandhinagar on skill development. A fiscal support agreement was also signed between ISM and Tata Electronics to establish a semiconductor Fab unit at Dholera with an investment of Rs 91,526 crore. Two virtual ground-breaking ceremonies were held for a Kaynes Technology plant in Sanand and for new facilities at Dholera SIR recently.
