MLX90412 All-in-One Fan And Pump Driver IC

Melexis has introduced the MLX90412, a new single-coil fan and pump driver IC that combines high performance with low noise operation. With a peak driving capability of 2.2A, the MLX90412 is suitable for driving loads of up to 35W. The new driver IC can operate from a supply voltage in the range of 3.5V to 32V and it is robust up to 40V.

The MLX90412 is suitable for use in equipment operating on 12V and 24V power supplies and also for portable applications with up to seven Li-ion cells (~29V). The device has been designed with an adaptive control algorithm to achieve the highest efficiency with the lowest reverse current over the full speed range without getting affected by the motor inductance or applied lead angle.

The MLX90412 is suitable to be used in applications such as drain pumps for washing machines and dishwashers, as well as toilet pumps; fans, blowers, and cross blowers in air conditioning units, desk fans, and pedestal fans; and Li-ion based applications including robot cleaners and robot lawnmowers.

The wide range of dynamic(PI) settings for a speed range up to 45000 e-rpm (electrical RPM) makes both open-loop and closed-loop speed control possible. The closed-loop speed control allows the speed tolerance to be reduced to as low as +/- 3%. The MLX90412 comes with the low acoustic noise current shaping for providing unprecedented noise performance in this price range.

The device posses a lot of integrated protection features such as locked rotor, over-temperature, over-voltage, short circuit, and current limiting, as well as built-in supply clamping. Available in a 3mm x 3mm DFN10 package, MLX90412 can be programmed via an I2C interface, and all options are configurable in the on boards EEPROM. The device is available in a 3mm x 3mm DFN10 package.
