EVLDRIVE101-HPD Motor-Drive Reference Design

STMicroelectronics has introduced the EVLDRIVE101-HPD, a high power density motor-drive reference design that integrates a 3-phase gate driver, STM32G0 microcontroller, and a 750W power stage into a compact 50mm diameter circular PCB. This innovative design boasts extremely low power consumption, dropping below 1µA in sleep mode, making it ideal for applications such as hairdryers, handheld vacuums, power tools, and fans. Its small form factor also fits seamlessly into drones, robots, and industrial equipment like pumps and process-automation systems.

The EVLDRIVE101-HPD leverages ST’s robust STDRIVE101 3-phase gate driver, offering flexibility in motor-control strategies, including trapezoidal or field-oriented control (FOC), with options for sensored or sensorless rotor-position detection. The STDRIVE101 features three half-bridges with 600 mA source/sink capability and operates within a voltage range of 5.5V to 75V, accommodating various low-voltage applications. It also includes integrated voltage regulation for both high-side and low-side gate drivers, configurable drain-source-voltage (Vds) monitoring protection, and options for direct or PWM control of gate inputs.

Developers benefit from the STM32G0 microcontroller's single-wire debug (SWD) interface for easy interaction and firmware updates to apply bug fixes and enhancements. The power stage incorporates STL220N6F7 60V STripFET F7 MOSFETs, providing high efficiency with a low Rds(on) of 1.2mΩ, and features energy-saving power-on circuitry that disconnects the power source when idle. With built-in protection features like Vds monitoring, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), overtemperature protection, and cross-conduction prevention, the EVLDRIVE101-HPD ensures both system safety and efficiency.
