power sources

OK, I'm not an electronics person, but I need some advice.

I have a small power source, no identifying name on it.  On the back is a tag that reads, POWER SUPPLY <IC> INPUT: AC100-250V 50/60Hz 10mA OUTPUT: DC5V+/-5% 200-300mA

it has a loose folding wall plug and a green and a red  light on the front.  when you plug it in the wall, the red light comes on and fades out, you have to hold it in and the red light stays on.

it's a black box about 2.5 inches tall and 1.5 inches across and 3/4 inches deep with a USB port on the bottom

can anybody tell me what type of things this was supposed to power or charge

Thanks in advance

There are very few chargers with output voltage of 5V with 200-300mA in market today, so the one you have should be a very old one. The red and green led might be there either for fault indication or for charging indication. There is nothing much you can predict without opening the box and taking a look at the circuit board.

thanks, I'm just trying to figure out what the heck it goes to, what type of device...it was found under a chest and we have no idea.

Based on the description of LEDs I think it is a charger.

An automated system is designed to accomplish some useful action, and that action requires power. There are many sources of power available, but the most commonly used power in today’s automated systems is electricity. Electrical power is the generated from other sources. Hydroelectric, solar, and nuclear and it can be readily converted into other types of power mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic to perform useful work. Electrical energy can be stored in high-performance.
