What are the advantages of schottky diode?

@Hiro_Hamada, As far I know the main property of a diode is that it should have low forward voltage drop (Vf) and high switching speed. If a Schottky diode has both these features superior than normal common diode. Then why do we even have common diode why dont we just use Schottky diode for all applications.

PermalinkA schottky diode has very low forward voltage drop and high switching speed that a normal diode. Since it has low forward voltage drop it has less conduction loss and it is used in reverse polarity portection circuit.
