Ultrasonic Water Metering with LoRaWAN Connectvity

Semtech Corporation announced that Hanbit has developed a new ultrasonic water metering (UWM) solution build on Semtech’s LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN protocol. The Hanbit’s UWM product uses LoRaWAN based connectivity in order to monitor the near real time and accurate water use data even at very low flow rates. The UWM smart meters uses ultrasonic pulse to take the precise measurements of the water flow rate even if it is low as three liters per hour. Flow reading is taken at a fixed time interval to provide accurate insights into the water use trends, the metered data can be accessed in real time through cloud based applications for simplified billing and trend analysis.

In the event of a drop in water flow or other abnormalities, the smart meter sends a warning signal immediately through the LoRaWAN network to enable a quick response and prevent the damages. The low power consumption of the device offer metering solutions for up to 20 years of battery life, this reduces frequent replacement and maintenance cost to the customer.
