I have the need to measure the current and voltage being used by a stepper motor while is is running under various conditions. It is a 5 wire stepper motor wired in series. How do I measure these values?
For voltage you'll need oscilscope to see the fast change in voltages through time, and it should be quite straight-forward. To measure the current, unfortunately, you'll have to measure current of the motor together with the driver (and then substract the current that idle driver takes), and if you need real-time current measurements you'll need a osciloscope and perform a 4-wire kelvin measurement. I'm sorry that there isn't any easier way...
