schematic symbol

I'm trying to replicate someone's IF circuit, but I've come across a symbol in his schematic which I'm not really sure about.  I'm pretty sure its a diode of some type.  I think the writing says "5v6" or possibly "5r6".  Is this some old-school way or Euro-way of writing a Zener?

I have seen some really old schematics documents, but this symbol looks really odd to me.

But since the voltage rating is mentioned as 5.6V it should be most likely a zener diode. The only other doubt I have is that it could be a dual package zener diode also

Yes, that's one of the acceptable symbols for a zener diode.  5.6Volt.
