This year, the EVs registered and delivered will be receiving the full subsidy amount of 6,750 euros, but if they are registered between January 1 and 31st March, will get a subsidy of 4,500 euros

After the government of Germany terminated a state backed electric vehicle subsidy scheme ahead of time, global automobile manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Audi have decided to fund the subsidy for the buyers of EVs in the country. As per a report of Reuters, the offer was supposed to end by the end of 2024, but now, the government has confirmed to end it much sooner.

It was a seven year subsidy scheme, which was stopped by the Economy Ministry of Germany after a court proceeding crafted a whopping $65.77 deficit in their projected funds. Initially, the scheme provided a subsidy of upto 6,750 euros, funded both by the car-makers and the government, although depending on the value of the EVs. Volkswagen also added that the offer is applicable for all the customers in the nation who purchased the car from the all-electric ID.range before December 15.

This year, the EVs registered and delivered will be receiving the full subsidy amount of 6,750 euros, but if they are registered between January 1 and 31st March, will get a subsidy of 4,500 euros, Volkswagen mentioned in a press conference. Imelda Labbe, Volkswagen board member for sales, marketing and aftersales, told the media, “We see it as our responsibility to support the system change towards electromobility.”

This strategy has been lambasted by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats and opposition conservatives as they think that it has the possibility to negatively impact vehicle manufacturers in the nation who are already facing a massive hurdle in cutting down prices to compete with US and Chinese rivals in the industry. Auto manufacturer Stellantis further added that until 31st December, the entire subsidy will be funded by them, but the amount is expected to be decreased for the customers who will register their cars by February 9.
