With the rise of accessible AI tools like ChatGPT, people are discovering new and creative ways to use the technology. Although these tools can produce sophisticated content, it's important to keep in mind their limitations. For instance, ChatGPT struggles with real-time data due to lack of training data and is also prone to "hallucinations". These issues make it unreliable when it comes to generating information that reflects the real world. However, one maker named Alan was able to creatively leverage ChatGPT's strengths for his weather display project.
The weather display built by Alan was designed to showcase an AI-generated piece of artwork in the style of Picasso that represents the day's weather conditions. To achieve this, a computer scrapes the internet to gather weather information for the day and generates a prompt for ChatGPT based on that information. ChatGPT then writes a creative story that incorporates the details provided. The story is then fed into an AI image generation tool called DALL-E, which returns an art piece based on the story. The art piece is then displayed on a screen connected to a Raspberry Pi Pico development board via a W5100S Ethernet HAT from WIZnet. This process is repeated daily, giving users a fun and creative way to check the weather with an extra twist.
This project highlights the importance of working with the limitations of AI tools and finding ways to leverage their strengths. Alan's workaround solution to the challenges presented by ChatGPT resulted in an intuitive and entertaining weather display. As AI tools continue to evolve, it will be interesting to see how people continue to push the boundaries of what's possible.
