The problem - Traditional farming techniques often involve the application of pesticides and fertilizers uniformly across entire fields. This method, while straightforward, can lead to several inefficiencies and environmental issues, the overuse of pesticides and fertilizers can lead to severe health problems, including cancer, neurological disorders, and reproductive issues.
Pesticides can contaminate soil, water, and air, affecting non-target species, including beneficial insects, birds, and aquatic life. Runoff from agricultural fields can lead to water pollution, harming aquatic ecosystems. also, the excessive use of pesticides and fertilisers can lead to a decline in biodiversity by killing off not only pests but also beneficial organisms such as pollinators and natural predators of pests. The production and application of chemical fertilizers contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, particularly nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
but we can't completely avoid the use of pesticides or fertilizers and no one is going to do that but we can control and limit the usage.
The solution- using AI to monitor and detect the needs of each plant represents a significant advancement in precision agriculture. This approach leverages technology to optimize resource use and improve crop management at an individual(or a group of plants) plant level.
Ground-based sensors can measure soil moisture, temperature, etc.AI algorithms(image processing) can analyze images to detect signs of disease, pest infestation, nutrient deficiencies, and water stress in plants.
with this we can monitor the plant parameters easily and we can use automated systems can apply water, fertilizers, and pesticides precisely where needed, minimizing waste and environmental impact.
Here I am going to use Arduino uno r4 with xiao camera modules to monitor the small group of plants and with the help of image processing, we can decide the needs of plants. the same data can be monitored through cloud-based apps. with the help of a robotic conveyor system we can provide the plant needs automatically
