The Elderly Care System is an advanced solution aimed at enhancing elderly care by integrating health monitoring, safety alerts, communication with caregivers. Combining AI-powered wearable technology and voice-controlled features, the system enables seamless interaction, fall detection, and timely reminders, ensuring elderly users maintain independence and receive critical support. By delivering essential health insights to caregivers, it promotes safety and effective communication.
Features:
(i) Health Monitoring & Safety Alerts: Continuously tracks vital signs such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen levels using wearable sensors, triggering alerts in case of abnormal readings. The temperature sensor monitors body temperature to detect fever or hypothermia, enabling timely medical intervention.
(ii) Fall Detection: Uses an accelerometer-gyroscope sensor to detect falls and automatically sends immediate alerts to caregivers or emergency services.
(iii) Voice-Controlled Reminders: Reminds users of medication schedules, doctor’s appointments, and other important tasks via voice prompts, helping them manage their daily routines.
(iv) Emergency Call Functionality: Allows the elderly to initiate phone calls to caregivers or emergency services through voice commands, offering quick access to assistance during critical situations.
(v) Real-time Translation: Provides instant translation of speech between multiple languages, improving communication between elderly users and caregivers, especially in multilingual environments.
(vi) Seamless Interaction: The system employs a microphone for voice input and a camera for visual data collection, enhancing user interaction and supporting features such as facial recognition or gesture control.
Technical Implementation:
The system is divided into two key modules: (A) the Wearable Module and (B) the Handheld Module.
(A) Wearable Module:
This module is subdivided into three sections: (1) back support belt, (2) headband, and (3) wristband.
(1) The back support belt contains ECG sensors that monitor the electrical activity of the heart and transmit data to the handheld module for real-time analysis.
(2) The headband integrates EEG sensors to monitor brainwave activity, providing valuable insights into cognitive health.
(3) The wristband includes a suite of sensors: a temperature sensor to detect fever or hypothermia, an oxygen level sensor (SpO2) to monitor blood oxygen saturation, and a heart rate sensor. The wristband also features a buzzer for auditory alerts related to medication schedules or critical health warnings. Additionally, GPS and an accelerometer-gyroscope are integrated to track movement, detect falls, and determine location in real-time.
(B) Handheld Module:
The handheld component, built around the Maixduino platform, functions similarly to voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Home. Equipped with a camera, microphone, and AI capabilities, this module processes sensor data from the wearable module to detect health anomalies, monitor sleep patterns, and trigger safety alerts when needed. It also supports real-time translation, allowing elderly users to communicate effectively in unfamiliar linguistic environments. The voice-controlled interface manages reminders and can initiate emergency calls. The Maixduino kit’s AI processing enables continuous, low-latency monitoring, ensuring timely response to potential health risks while maintaining ease of use through voice and visual inputs.
